Unlike many mountain ranges around the world which are formed primarily from rock, the Australian Alps are distinguished by bedrock covered by a large range of soil types. This factsheet explores the unique nature of these soil mountains through:

  • soil formation and type

  • soil ecosystems above and below ground and

  • soils and their relationship with water.
