LIVE MUSIC BOOKED FOR our 8th annual “GIVE BACK DAY” 2024… At the Blue Duck!!

Read on about our upcoming Online Silent Auction, Give-Back volunteer day, and fun evening with music by Ally Row at The Blue Duck! Updates can be viewed on our FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/friendsofthemitta/

Firstly, a big thank-you to newly minted Blue Duck trustee Joe Galvez for donating his venue so we can offer some great music for the evening of Saturday, September 28 (Grand Final Day). We’ve booked the incredible duo Ally Row (Alice Fitzgerald and Rowan Sizer). He's now another lifetime member!

Here's a bit about the band:

Gunaikurnai/Gippsland based, Ally Row are an alt-country/folk rock duo that bring you toe-tapping yet emotive music.

The multi-instrumentalists perform velvety harmonies alongside guitar, piano, modernised pop banjo, harmonica and stomp box. Together, the two-piece band create a powerful synergy with heartfelt memorable originals that will get you dancing.

For the, Mumford and Sons, The 502s, Sons of the East and Of Monsters and Men fans out there.... Ally Row are the next artists to follow.

In 2023, they were the winners of the Triple J Unearthed NYE on the Hill Fest Competition, Port Fairy Folk Festival Busking Competition, Semi-Finalists in the Listen Up Music Songwriting Prize for their single ‘Bare feet’, and are growing their festival portfolio; performing at Woodford Folk Festival 23/24, NYE on the Hill Fest 23, Grand Finalists in the Airlie Beach Festival of Music Passport to Airlie, Longwood Fest, Tarra Festival, East Gippsland Winter Festival, headlining Patchewollock Music Festival as well as the Wodonga North East Food and Wine Fest.

This year, their single ‘Bare feet’ was in the Semi-Finals of the International Songwriting Competition and Unsigned Only, they performed at Tamworth Country Music Festival, opened for Fanny Lumsden (Country Halls Tour) & folk legend Kim Churchill, performed at Boolarra Folk Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival (Busking after winning the Buskers Comp in 2023), Tarra Fest, Newhaven Twilight Festival and Mirboo North Winter fest. Recently, they performed for the Ambassador of Denmark in Canberra to honour the relationship between Gippsland and Denmark.

They have just released their alt-country wild west single ‘The Great Unknown’ July 23rd - currently on ABC Country High Rotation.

Stay tuned for music time, but for sure after the game is over… (we're working on a way to air the game at the Duck).

The Blue Duck cabins will be available and we encourage anyone who isn’t planning on camping to think about booking in the near future. The Duck’s new contact information and updated pricing will be available soon on our FaceBook page.

We’re working on food & drinks, but for the time being it’s BYO drinks until further notice. We’ll have some BBQ food on offer.

Volunteers keen to join in getting their hands dirty on more fun projects along our magical rivers will meet at 9 am at the Anglers Rest campground, as per usual. You can sign up online at park connect.vic.gov, Search Groups and Activities, then Search Programs and Groups, type in Friends of the Mitta, then click us. The site is still kinda clunky so if that doesn’t work don’t worry, just sign the paper form on site on the day. We’ll send a river crew downstream to clear broom from the river camps, probably some folks to work on the native trees at the Hinnomunjie Bridge take out, most volunteers will help with trail maintenance on the Tombstone (O’Connell’s, Theddorra) Overlook, and for families with kids or who want to stick close, some campground potholing and other maintenance. More on that later.

Our huge annual online silent auction will go live on Friday, August 30th at 5 pm, and bids will close on Sunday, September 15th, at 9. pm. Winners can pick up their prizes on the Give Back Day, or have someone grab them for ya! It’s a fantastic and fun auction full of great river gear, regional accomodation, and river adventures all over the planet!

We'll cap the day with that FREE OUTDOOR CONCERT by www.allyrow.com.au that evening behind the Blue Duck, on the grass along the Cobungra river… it’ll be awesome!

More details as things get closer… hope to see you there!
