In this factsheet, conservation is defined and applied to the complex set of challenges presented by the Australian Alps. It explores the concept of conservation through the eyes of Aboriginal people, explorers and early settlers through to today’s bushwalkers, scientists and government planners. It discusses the issues which led to the need for conservation management and the various pressures and expectations placed on this landscape. It looks at how we are managing this landscape today to protect its natural values for future generations
